In today’s competitive manufacturing environment, industries are continuously looking for ways to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, and adopt sustainable technologies. Roeching Industries recently took a significant step in this direction by upgrading its CNC routing vacuum system from a conventional water-ring vacuum pump to a modern 300 m³/hr Dry Claw Vacuum Pump BCV 300.

 

The Challenge

The customer was using a conventional water-ring vacuum pump for CNC routing fixture holding. While the system met the basic process requirements, it presented several operational challenges. Continuous water consumption increased utility costs and generated wastewater that required disposal. The existing system also demanded frequent maintenance, resulting in higher operating costs and periodic production interruptions. In addition, fluctuations in vacuum performance affected fixture holding stability, which is critical for achieving machining accuracy and productivity. As manufacturers increasingly focus on sustainable and energy-efficient production, the customer wanted a modern vacuum solution that would improve reliability while reducing operating expenses.


Customer Consultation and Solution

The customer was using a conventional water-ring vacuum pump from another manufacturer. Becker was approached to evaluate the application and recommend a more energy-efficient replacement solution.

 

The customer did not have a specific replacement technology in mind. After a detailed application study, technical discussions, and an evaluation of operating costs, the project originated through a detailed technical discussion with the customer to evaluate the limitations of the existing vacuum system. Rather than simply replacing the pump, Becker engineers conducted an application assessment, reviewed the CNC routing process, and analysed the customer's vacuum demand. Based on this study, Becker recommended replacing the water-ring vacuum pump with a BCV 300 Dry Claw Vacuum Pump integrated with a 1000-litre vacuum receiver tank. The receiver tank provides a stable vacuum reserve during peak demand, ensuring continuous and reliable fixture holding throughout the machining cycle. The customer selected the Becker solution after understanding the operational, maintenance, and long-term cost benefits offered by dry claw vacuum technology.

 

The existing water-ring vacuum pump was successfully replaced with a 300 m³/hr Dry Claw Vacuum Pump BCV 300. The new system was designed to provide a stable vacuum source for CNC routing fixture applications while eliminating the need for water.

 

The receiver tank acts as a vacuum reservoir, ensuring immediate vacuum availability and maintaining system stability during peak demand conditions.

 

After that, we received an order for three BCV 300 pumps. We also received an order for a U 5.101 oil-lubricated vacuum pump with a 500-liter vacuum tank for a vacuum fixing application.

Results

Following commissioning, the customer experienced significant improvements in overall system performance.

The most immediate benefit was the complete elimination of water consumption, removing both utility costs associated with sealing water and the need for wastewater disposal. Maintenance requirements were substantially reduced, lowering service costs and minimizing production downtime.

 

The combination of the BCV 300 provided a stable and consistent vacuum supply, improving workpiece holding during machining operations and supporting greater machining accuracy. The energy-efficient dry claw technology also contributed to lower operating costs while improving overall system reliability.
