Innovation in the field of Carbon Capture: BECKER at the 2025 Carbon & Hydrogen Technology Expo

From June 25th-26th, BECKER’s Market Manager, Tim Tietz and Business Development Manager, Lars Heckersbruch, visited the Carbon Capture and Hydrogen Technology Expo in Houston, Texas - a key milestone in our ongoing commitment to supporting global innovation in carbon capture and storage (CCS) through our specialised vacuum and compressor solutions.

The international event brought together professionals and industry thought leaders in energy, hydrogen, and industrial manufacturing sectors, providing a platform to exchange insights on decarbonisation strategies, net-zero goals, and emerging carbon removal technologies.

Alongside panel discussions and technical presentations, the exhibition featured breakthrough developments in CCUS, carbon utilisation, and renewable energy integration.

BECKER EXPANDS ITS COMMITMENT TO THE FUTURE MARKET OF CO₂ CAPTURE

During the expo, Tim and Lars connected with several organisations that were unfamiliar with BECKER’s capabilities in low-pressure and vacuum technologies for carbon capture applications. These conversations were instrumental in:

  • Introducing BECKER’s engineered components for amine-based absorption and regeneration processes,
  • Sharing expertise on how vacuum-supported solvent regeneration can reduce OpEx and improve energy efficiency,
  • Strengthening our role in the growing North American carbon capture ecosystem.

REFLECTIONS FROM TIM - CARBON & HYDROGEN TECHNOLOGY EXPO 2025

“I was looking forward to reconnecting with familiar faces in the industry and discovering new trends in carbon capture technology. Given the success of the CC Expo Europe, I was particularly interested in attending this North American event for the first time.”

“One of my goals was to gauge the overall mood in the carbon capture sector in one of its hotspots, United States of America and Canada, and assess whether political shifts are influencing the pace of development.”

INSIGHTS & TAKEAWAYS: VACUUM IN CARBON CAPTURE PROCESSES

A standout takeaway from the expo was that many attendees, particularly those working on amine scrubbing technologies, were unaware of how vacuum technology can enhance carbon dioxide solvent regeneration.

Unlike traditional thermal-only systems, BECKER’s vacuum pumps reduce reliance on high-cost heat energy, improving efficiency and sustainability.

This gap presents an opportunity for education and collaboration, especially in:

  • Solvent-based CO₂ absorption systems
  • Sorbent-based adsorption systems
  • Membrane-based separation processes

Compared to its European counterpart in Hamburg, the Houston expo had a more focused audience, featuring mostly U.S.-based developers, integrators, and technology start-ups. Many of these companies were first-time exhibitors, reaffirming the importance of engaging with both regional editions of the event.

While there were few public unveilings of new hardware or technologies, largely due to commercial confidentiality and IP protection, the event highlighted how competitive and fast-moving this market is becoming. Visibility is expected to increase as maturing technologies approach market deployment.

BECKER'S ROLE IN CARBON CAPTURE SYSTEMS AND INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES

At BECKER, we take pride in supporting the decarbonisation of industrial processes through the delivery of custom vacuum and pressure solutions tailored to a wide range of CO₂ capture technologies. Our systems are designed to enhance performance in methods such as amine scrubbing, solvent-based absorption and regeneration, sorbent-based adsorption using moving bed processes, and membrane separation.

We support customers with standardised systems as well as engineered-to-order (ETO) configurations, offering technical consulting backed by deep application knowledge.

Recognising the sensitive nature of many carbon capture projects, we are also open to establishing NDAs to facilitate secure collaboration; offering the additional peace of mind our partners require.
